Obereggen is a mountain village embedded in the heart of the Dolomites world heritage site. From here there is a beautiful panorama overlooking the majestic Latemar massif, the Catinaccio, Zangen, the Weisshorn and the Schwarzhorn.

The Latemar was once a coral reef and was formed in the warm waters of the Thetys Sea. The reef was exposed to strong tremors, uplift and flooding and so the brittle interior of the reef collapsed, whereby the entire massif still has the shape of a semicircle today.

The Latemar

The local Obereggen mountain, the Latemar, is known for its impressive limestone tower. It is also described as the “dolls of Latemar” based on a legend.

Since 2009, the limestone mountains have belonged to the most beautiful landscapes in the world. They offer a beautiful backdrop for nature lovers and alpinists and are home to countless wild animals and rare plants.

Hike to the Karer Lake

This ideal family hiking trail (also with a pushchair) takes you through the Karer forest to the legendary Karer Lake at 1,520 metres. There you’ll find:

Lovely mountain setting with the Rosengarten and Latemar in the background
Visited by divers in winter (dives below a thick layer of ice)

Labyrinth trail

The labyrinth trail is undoubtedly one of our most popular hikes. This easy hike leads along picturesque forest paths through the Karer forest at the foot of the impressive north walls of the Latemar massif.

The labyrinth trail was created from a massive rockfall and leads through a fascinating labyrinth of boulders as high as a house down to Lake Karer. Enjoy the sight and experience unforgettable views during this unique hike.
